College Proposal for the Boterbloem

Last week alderman Van Doorninck presented a proposal for preservation at the Boterbloem. It would be 2ha of land in the business park that we can continue to use. The photo shows what that would look like in practice - behind and next to the farm. We have had to decide to reject this offer.

There is no farm on 2 ha, even on a small scale. The only revenue model would be a catering function with a lot of health care income. This has never been our ambition. We are a farm with an open character where everyone is welcome: visitors, hikers, peace seekers, nature lovers, buyers of organic products, catering guests or care clients. Sliding into functions, arranging and developing other ancillary activities is possible, but only in addition to the core activity of De Boterbloem: organic arable farming. Incidentally, the college speaks about 3ha: the third is the current orchard. This has never been questioned, because it will not become part of the business park.

The B & W proposal does not do justice to two important aspects of our protest against the business park so far: preservation of the historic plot pattern and open landscape. Certainly the latter is inextricably linked to the care and recreation function of the farm. Clients literally experience space and perspective in the polder

The College has developed a proposal within the picket poles that SADC has set out. Already in the summer of 2017 SADC submitted this variant (albeit as temporary) to the Boterbloem. It has been known for years that ground compensation will be achieved by adapting the water pits at the request of Schiphol. There is no new ambitious proposal here, but a cigar from SADC's own box. Presenting this as the solution does not do justice to the green ambitions of the College, nor to the survival of the Boterbloem.

In the meantime it is no longer just about the Boterbloem. There is another crisis besides the economic that is widely shared across society: climate damage, biodiversity conservation, open landscape and local food production. Also, through Platform Preservation Lutkemeer cases have been brought forward regarding corruption and malpractice. They first need attention before making an irreversible decision about the fields.

We assume that the city council will ultimately make a sensible choice and call everyone to support us and the platform Preserving Lutkemeer in the coming period.
