Support Jus, Hambach Forest Defender on Hunger Strike in Jail

One person remains in custody after our last remaining living tower barricade, an essential tool for peaceful resistance against deforestation and climate collapse, was evicted.
Our living tower barricade, which was situated at the entrance to the Hambach Forest, was named Rémi’s Tower in memory of Rémi Fraisse, bringing attention to the increasing deaths and oppression of Earth defenders. A UK-based group Global Witness reported that at least 116 environmental activists died last year while campaigning against mining, logging, water and land grabs. The amount of oppression, incarceration and deaths is rising.
On July 22nd at around 8am, as the eviction of Rémi’s Tower began, Jus was the only activist occupying the tower. He was up at the top of the approximately 7 meter tall tower and had chained himself to a concrete block. The whole situation must have been pretty scary, as the cops had removed the lower tower legs in order to bring the machines nearer. This totally destabilized the structure so the whole tower could have collapsed putting Jus in a dangerous situation. It was difficult to see what was really going on as the cops had surrounded such a large area around the tower but we could hear him screaming at them to stop.
The whole eviction of one man took 14 hours, during which our comrade had to face massive oppression. The worst thing is that the only witnesses are RWE, their Security and the cops, not even the press was allowed in.
Jus is now in detention awaiting trial in the JVA (jail) in Köln-Ossendorf. At the time of his arrest, Jus announced that he is going into hunger strike and we are awaiting information about his health.

Jus seit 2 Wochen in Hungerstreik
Jus, der vor 2 Wochen bei der Turmräumung inhaftiert wurde, ist seitdem in Hungerstreik. Bislang gab es weder brieflichen noch telefonischen Kontakt, nicht einmal für seinen Anwalt. Besuche wurden seiner Freundin grundsätzlich erlaubt, einen konkreten Besuchstermin gab es bislang trotz pausenloser Bemühungen allerdings noch nicht. Da bei Gefangenenbesuchen grundsätzlich deutsch gesprochen werden muss, muss zusätzlich einE DolmetscherIn mitgebracht werden. Das einZige Lebenszeichen von Jus kam bislang über die Sozialarbeiterin der JVA, die mit ihm sprach und auf seinen Wunsch eine Kurznachricht an den Anwalt weitergab: Er sei immer noch in Hungerstreik. Diese Nachricht solle weiterverbreitet werden.

12:34u Alle arrestanten zijn weer vrij. Een persoon bij het politiebureau zegt dat hij nooit eerder mensen zo toegetakeld uit gevangenschap heeft zien komen. Ze zijn allen zwaar mishandeld !!!
12:15u Mensen ter plaatse horen uitroepen van pijn vanuit de kelder van het politiebureau komen! Op de vraag hoe lang de gedetineerden nog worden gemarteld, antwoordt een politieagent: "Niet veel langer."
10.30u We krijgen een oproep van de advocaat van de arrestanten.
Deze informeert ons dat de identificatieprocedure is begonnen en de Staatsschutz er blijkbaar hierbij betrokken is. Dit valt naar mijn mening samen met de getuigenis van eerdere arrestanten die denken dat Staatsschutz voortaan zal gaan ingrijpen bij politiek activisme.
De absurditeit van de gebeurtenissen van vandaag moet nog eens worden benadrukt, omdat het om een verkeerscontrole gaat en er nog altijd geen aanklacht is.

Willekeurige arrestatie bij verkeerscontrole

Vanochtend rond 2.00 uur werd bij een algemene verkeerscontrole in Niederaussem een auto aan de kant gezet. Bij de begroeting merkte de politie op dat de inzittenden werden geïdentificeerd als activisten van Hambach Forst en de ambtenaren eisten zonder verklaring de identificatie van de bestuurder en van alle passagiers. Zij hadden geen id bij zich en zagen geen reden mee te werken aan deze onwettige persoonscontrole. Daarop mocht de auto niet verder rijden en zijn de passagiers aangehouden. De auto is in beslag genomen wegens "hulpmiddel" - een beschuldiging die nooit aanklacht werd, maar het hele optreden van de politie is uiteraard een van pure intimidatie. De bestuurder identificeerde zich en moest maar een taxi bestellen of de 25 km naar Hambach lopen. De politie belette hem een jas uit de kofferbak te halen.
De flagrante willekeur en chicanes van de hele gebeurtenis spreekt voor zich. Het walgelijke is dat het geen individuele gevallen zijn, maar alledaagse praktijk voor dissidenten in de Rijnlandse bananenrepubliek RWE. Actief verzet bieden is niet eens reden om repressie tegen te komen - het is genoeg om 's nachts onderweg te zijn Niederaußem en niet te voldoen aan de dress code. Let hierop als je naar de solidemo toegaat. De gevangenen zitten in politiebureau Bergheim en kunnen maximaal 12 uur worden vastgehouden, dus tot ongeveer 14:00 uur. Er is al ondersteuning bij de hoofdingang en meer ondersteuning wordt verwelkomd.

Hambach forest defender Jus is still in jail and on the 25th day of his hunger strike. Jus is refusing food to bring attention to the catastrophic realities of extreme energy extraction like lignite from the RWE open cast mines, which constitutes the largest source of CO2 emissions in Europe—resulting in global climate instability, waves of climate refugees, and resource and ecological collapse in the 6th largest anthropogenic extinction of species.
Furthermore, Jus is on hunger strike to condemn the fueling of dynamic complicity of local law enforcement and the justice system in protecting and representing corporate interests of RWE, and spending massive public resources to attack, displace, and criminalize environmental activists protecting the planet.
Jus stated that he is now in solitary confinement and has been experiencing aggression an abuse. Lights are turned on every 15 to 30 minutes throughout the night night to “monitor his health,” and food is pushed or kicked into his cell during meal time in the facility. The doctor sees him only on a weekly basis, even though he has made many appeals for closer monitoring of his health by a doctor. Now he has been threatened with force-feeding.
“Today, on the 21st day of my hunger strike, I am transitioning from water and tea to water only with a message of climate movement unity strength and solidarity,” Jus said.
“As climate chaos ensues and the last remaining habitats like the Hambach forest are put on a corporate chopping block, the earth itself has become just another commodity and as climate criminals like RWE rage across the planet, it is up to us to keep up the pressure and raise the call of Alarm!
“To my Comrades in the Hambach forest, I would like to state that you probably have no idea how much that support really means to me—the prisoner support actions you organized—and I think fondly of the moment when I join you for a meal in the forest. Knowing, defending, and perpetuating all the species that sustain us.”

good newes from Jus. He is still alive, cause he stopped his hungerstrike last week, and he is in good mood. His friend got news on thursday. She will see him next week. Our lawyer wishes to see him out soon, but we are not sure about this. More information on the blog soon.
