Naar schatting staan er in Nederland 20.000 brievenbusbedrijven geregistreerd. Zo zijn 17 van de 20 grootste beursgenoteerde bedrijven in Portugal op papier in Nederland gevestigd. Via deze constructie kunnen bedrijven biljoenen euro’s doorsluizen naar belastingparadijzen zoals Bermuda. Deze belastingontduiking kost Europa 1.000 miljard euro per jaar.

Dat bedrag is genoeg om het grootste deel van de asociale bezuinigingen op zorg, onderwijs en de publieke diensten in Nederland,
maar ook in Griekenland, Spanje, Portugal en Ierland te schrappen. Er blijft dan genoeg over om ook een deel van de staatsschuld af te betalen.

In het Amstelgebouw in Amsterdam zijn ruim 2000 van deze brievenbusbedrijven gevestigd. Met deze ludieke actie willen we op een symbolische wijze belasting gaan innen bij deze belastingontduikers om te laten zien dat de bezuinigingen niet onvermijdelijk zijn – als we het geld halen waar het zit.

By estimation there are over 20,000 mailbox companies registered in the Netherlands. Of the 20 biggest public companies in Portugal 17 of them are officially based in the Netherlands. Via this construction companies are able to send billions of euros to tax havens like Bermuda. This grand scheme of tax evasion is costing Europe 1,000 billion euros a year.

This amount of cash is enough to abolish the vast majority of the antisocial cuts to health care services, education and public services in the Netherlands, as well as in Greece, Spain, Portugal and Ireland. After this there would also be enough left to pay off part of the national debt.

In the Amstel building in Amsterdam over 2000 of these companies are established. With this satirical political action we plan to symbolically collect the taxes from these tax evaders to show that the austerity measures are unnecessary – if we get the money where it is!
