Aankondiging, gepost door: diverse groepen op 14/12/2021 12:08:54

Waar: Dam, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Wanneer: 18/12/2021 - 14:00 t/m 18/12/2021 - 16:00

Zij verdienen onze steun in hun dappere strijd.

On December 18 - International Migrants Day - attention is drawn in several countries to the protest of migrants from Refugees in Libya in front of the UNHCR building in Tripoli (Libya). Action will be taken in various places as part of the Abolish Frontex campaign.

In Amsterdam a protest will take place on Dam Square from 2 to 4 pm, with music from the Fanfare van de Eerste Liefdesnacht and, if possible, a live connection with the people in Libya. We are handing out flyers with information and an appeal to the government to sign a petition. A petition to immediately evacuate these refugees and to end Dutch and European cooperation with Libya to stop refugees. Because the Netherlands is partly responsible for the appalling situation of refugees in Libya.

After a raid in the suburbs of Tripoli on 1 October this year. - with 5000 arrests and 6 deaths as a result - 3000 migrants have sought protection in front of the UNHCR office through a sit-in. They deserve our support in their brave fight.

Migrants in Libya have no rights and can be imprisoned without trial. The Libyan detention centers are notorious for human rights violations and torture. A fact-finding mission of the UN Human Rights Council speaks of crimes against humanity.

When refugees try to escape Libyan hell, they are intercepted in the Mediterranean, with the help of EU border security agency Frontex, by the so-called Libyan coastguard and are directly imprisoned in Libyan detention centers. The Libyan government and various militias receive money, weapons and equipment from the EU and EU Member States to stop refugees. The Netherlands is making a naval vessel available for training the Libyan coastguard, among other things.

The petition will be handed over to the government and parliament in the week after December 18.
