Wat ons betreft horen vluchtelingen niet opgesloten en uitgezet te worden. We willen de vluchtelingen die vastzitten in Soesterberg en Rotterdam dan ook een hart onder de riem steken. Op zaterdag 8 april organiseren we een bustour met solidariteitsdemonstraties bij deze detentiecentra.
As far as we are concerned refugees are not to be imprisoned and deported. So we want to show our support to the refugees who are imprisoned in Rotterdam and Soesterberg. On Saturday, April 8th, we organize a bus tour with solidarity demonstrations at these detention centers.

Zaterdag 8 april: Solidariteit met opgesloten vluchtelingen
Bustour langs detentiecentra Soesterberg en Rotterdam

We kennen allemaal de beelden van de ‘vluchtelingencrisis’: vluchtelingen die verdrinken in de Middellandse Zee, die langdurig vastzitten aan de grenzen van Europa, die doodvriezen in kampen in Griekenland door ontoereikende opvang.

De Europese Unie zet alles op alles om zoveel mogelijk vluchtelingen buiten de deur te houden. Ook Nederland is een steeds strenger vluchtelingenbeleid gaan voeren. Dit geldt net zo goed voor mensen die hier al zijn. Zo vinden er regelmatig uitzettingen naar volstrekt onveilige landen als Afghanistan en Irak plaats.

Voorafgaand aan een uitzetting worden vluchtelingen vaak opgesloten in één van de detentiecentra bij Rotterdam, Schiphol en Soesterberg (Kamp Zeist). In Soesterberg worden ook gezinnen met kinderen vastgehouden.

4Freedom of Movement is een nieuw initiatief van mensen die vinden dat er een radicale omslag in het vluchtelingenbeleid moet komen. Geen uitsluiting, opsluiting en uitzetting, maar opvang en hulp, en niet in de laatste plaats het wegnemen van de oorzaken die mensen dwingen te vluchten. Het is tenslotte de Westerse economische en militaire internationale politiek, vroeger en nu, die mensen ertoe noopt hun huis en familie te verlaten.

Over opsluiting van vluchtelingen:

Verhaal van A(r), 16 jaar: “Voor mij was het verschrikkelijk om in Zeist twee weken te verblijven. Ik heb de ergste dagen in mijn leven gehad in die plek, als je als kind steeds denkt dat je terug zal gaan en mogelijk vermoord zal worden en niet meer je ouders zal zien, kon ik niks meer doen dan huilen.”

Bezoekgroep Detentiecentrum Rotterdam: “Een week na de eerste ondersteunende actie van 2017 heeft de bezoekgroep inmiddels meerdere opgesloten vluchtelingen kunnen bezoeken. Maandagmiddag stuitte de bezoekgroep op een ernstig verzwakte man. De man is ziek, heeft een ernstige ziekte onder de leden, krijgt van niemand hulp, leeft in een totaal isolement en is gebroken naar eigen zeggen, hij is op.”

Vluchteling voor de zoveelste keer in vreemdelingendetentie in “Dear Ladies and Gentlemen of the civilized world, Dear members of the Dutch Government”: You steal from us, from all the lands that you call the 3rd world, and when we ask you back a little well-being that you have stolen there, your answer is so arrogant and violent, to the point of using the brute force together with all what you have stolen from us as a weapon against us, justifying your massacres with the excuse of terrorism.

Hoge Commissaris voor de Mensenrechten Nils Muiznieks van de Raad van Europa: “Kinderen mogen nooit gevangen worden gezet. Niet in een gevangenis en niet in een detentiecentrum voor migranten’.”

Amnesty International: “De onduidelijkheid over de duur van de detentie, het zware regime en onduidelijkheid over de toekomst veroorzaken gevoelens van angst en depressie, met soms (pogingen tot) zelfmoord en zelfbeschadiging tot gevolg. Velen ervaren het als vernederend en spreken van verlies van eigenwaarde en identiteit.”

Saturday, April 8: Solidarity with detained refugees
Bus along detention centers Soesterberg and Rotterdam

We all know the images of the “refugee crisis”: refugees who drowned in the Mediterranean, who are stuck at the borders of Europe for a long time, who freeze to death in camps in Greece because of inadequate shelter.

The European Union does as much as possible to keep refugees out. The Netherlands also embarked upon an ever stricter refugee policy. This applies equally to people who are already here. Regularly, deportations take place to totally unsafe countries like Afghanistan and Iraq.

Prior to deportation refugees are often locked up in one of the detention centers in Rotterdam, Schiphol and Soesterberg (Kamp Zeist). In Soesterberg families with children are also being held.

As far as we are concerned refugees are not to be imprisoned and deported. So we want to show our support to the refugees who are imprisoned in Rotterdam and Soesterberg. On Saturday, April 8th, we organize a bus tour with solidarity demonstrations at these detention centers.

4Freedom of Movement is a new initiative from people who believe that a radical change has to come in refugee policy. No exclusion, detention and deportation, but shelter and assistance, and not in the last place the removal of the causes that force people to flee. After all it is the Western economic and military international politics, past and present, which requires people to leave their homes and families.

About the imprisonment of refugees:

Story of A (r), 16: “For me it was awful to stay in Zeist two weeks. I have had the worst days in my life in that place, if you as a child always expect you will go back and possibly will be killed and will not see your parents anymore, I could not do anything but cry. ”

Visiting Group Detention Center Rotterdam: “A week after the initial support action in 2017, the visiting group has visited several refugees that are locked up there. Monday afternoon we came across a severely weakened man. The man is ill, has a serious illness, receives no aid at all, is living in total isolation and in his own words, he’s broken, finished. ”

High Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks of the Council of Europe: “Children should never be put in prison. Not in a prison and not in a detention center for migrants. ”

Amnesty International: “The uncertainty about the length of detention, the heavy regime and uncertainty about the future cause feelings of anxiety and depression, sometimes with (attempted) suicide and self-harm as a result. Many feel that it as humiliating and speak of loss of self-esteem and identity. ”
