After a series of protests in the (refugee) camp in Idomeni, GR, during
the night of the 3rd to the 4th of March 2016, at around 2am, at least
two people were beaten up by the Macedonian military/police after having
legally passed the border.

At least one of the victims was a central
figure of the ongoing refugee protests of the past days in the camp of
Idomeni.

Activists groups of 'Travelling Bureau' (travellingbureau.blogsport.eu)
and 'Moving Europe' today have released a report about this. Please
share widely!

Press release from Moving Europe and Travelling Bureau from the 6th of
March 2016
Macedonian Officials abuse refugees after legally crossing the border in
Idomeni
Obvious intimidations and act of revenge against participants of refugee
protests

Idomeni, GR – During the night of the 3rd to the 4th of March 2016, two
refugees were beaten up and severely injured by the Macedonian military
and police while crossing the border legally. International police has
also been present at the time and witnessed the act of violence. At
least one of the victims was a central figure of the refugee protests
that took place in the camp of Idomeni between the 27th and the 29th of
February 2016. These protests gained international media attention after
the refugees removed the border gate. Thereafter, the Macedonian police
shot tear gas and sound grenades in to the protesters.

In the said night, after the two refugees passed the border at around
2am, they were beaten, kicked and brutalised with electro shocks
directly behind the gate, in full view of other refugees waiting behind
the gate. One of the two refugees was striped of everything, including
his clothes and his documents. Both refugees are now back in Greece and
undergoing medical treatment.

The two victims of the abuses have no more chance of continuing their
flight through Macedonia/FYROM, especially since a Macdenian police
officer threatened to kill them if they return. Therefore, we demand
that a safe passage to Germany with the perspective of a right to remain
for both has to be made possible. Other people involved in the protests
who are still in the camp in Idomeni are now very afraid that they will
face a similar fate when they cross the border. Therefore, an
independent observatory mission needs to be established in order to
guarantee the enforcement of human rights at the border crossing in Idomeni.
