12. December, 17.00h. Around 1000 people from different grassroots networks gathered at the metro station Belleville and took the streets of Paris in an unauthorized demonstration.

The demonstration walked on the road following the rhythm of a samba band. While walking through the streets, a police van broke the demonstration. More vans full of riot cops followed and split the march in two. The front part of the protest then continued until the police kettled the group at quai de Jemmapes. At this point, some people tried to escape over a bridge but were blocked by police using pepper spray. The group sat by the water while the police didn't know what to do with such a big group of demonstrators. Given the French political context, the police intended to deescalate the situation and negotiate a way out. They offered people to leave in groups of five. After the experiences from the 29. November, the protesters demanded no ID checks, and were willing to remain all together in solidarity otherwise.
In the end, everyone was allowed to leave in groups of 10 and there were no arrests. However, as it has become normal this week for a lot of people, police waited in the subway and carried out ID checks. A group of 7 people were brought to the police station but then released the same evening.
