Ga mee met de bus naar Rheinland Klimaat Kamp

Het klimaatkamp in Rheinland komt niet uit de lucht vallen. Na de VN klimaattop in 2009 in Kopenhagen kwamen Duitse milieu activisten terug in Duitsland met de vraag: Hoe verder? Als de politiek niet handelt, waar kunnen wij dan klimaat verandering in eigen land tegen gaan. Het antwoord dat er op deze vraag kwam was: Rheinland. Sindsdien vinden er bezettingen plaats in dit gebied en wordt er steeds grootschaliger actie georganiseerd om bruinkool te stoppen. Deze zomer is er een internationaal actie kamp.
In Rheinland wordt bruinkool gewonnen in open pit mining. Hele dorpen worden ontruimd om plaats te maken voor deze mega operatie. Dit gebied is de grootste bron van CO2 uitstoot in Europa en alleen de power plant Niederaußem produceert een uitstoot van ongeveer 1 ton CO2 per seconde! Dat is meer dan dat een persoon uit Bangladesh in een heel jaar uitstoot. Maar klimaat verandering gaat niet alleen om uitstoot. Het gaat om climate justice: machts verhoudingen, daders en slachtoffers, het stoppen van een onhoudbare samenlevingsvorm die gebaseerd is op groei van private winst ten koste van publiek welzijn van alles wat leeft. Daarom bestaat het kamp niet alleen uit actie (zie agenda actie weekend) maar ook een climate school met workshops over "Verandering creeren".

5 redenen om op de bus te springen:
1) Be on the right side of history! Behorende tot de generatie die er op moet toezien 10% GHG emissie vermindering per jaar te realiseren, is dit een historische gelegenheid om deel uit te maken van een internationaal educatief & actie kamp om bruinkool een halt toe te roepen. En de Rheinland bruinkool lokatie is de grootste bron van uitstoot van broeikas gassen in Europa. Dit is een prachtige kans om ecocide (vernieling van de aarde) waar te nemen, onderdeel uit te maken van het verzet en het bestuderen van alternatieven die er bestaan om een positieve shift te maken.
2) Leer in workshops van de Climate School of geef een workshop als je specifieke kennis hebt die je graag wil delen.
3) Train new skills: op het laatste klimaat kamp waar ik was leerde ik bijvoorbeeld industrieel klimmen voor banner drops, leerde ik over internet veiligheid en programma's die je kan gebruiken en over social media campagne voeren evenals toffe workshops over voedsel-bossen, film vertoningen en stadstuinen/urban farming.
4) Meet new people/make new friends in de internationale movement die steeds meer samenwerkt voor acties richting Parijs VN klimaat top 30nov.
5) Draag bij: een vakantie waar je ook iets nuttigs doet door te vrijwilligen bij de keuken, bij de info tent, EHBO hulp of vertaling.

TAKE OFF: Voor een complete klimaat kamp ervaring vertrekken we met de bus maandag 10 augustus in de ochtend.

--- Als het lukt de bus compleet vol te krijgen dan is er geld over. Je kan er dan ervoor kiezen op de terugreis, wanneer we de kilometers die we met de bus maken precies weten, om die 1 tot 10 euro's terug te krijgen of het restbedrag te doneren aan de Hambach Forest bezetting (meer info volgt dan in de bus).

5 reasons to hop on the bus:
1) Be on the right side of history! We belong to the generation whose task it is to realize 10% reduction of GHG emissions per year. Shutting down coal is an urgent component of that shift and this camp is a historical occasion to be part of an international educational action camp to shut down coal. The Rhineland open-pit brown coal mining is Europe’s biggest emitter of greenhouse gases. This is an opportunity to witness what ecocide actually looks like, be part of the resistance and study the alternatives out there, for us to make a positive shift.
2) Learn new things in workshops (or maybe you want to give a workshop if you yourself have specific useful knowledge to share with the climate movement)
3) Train new skills: at the last climate camp I attended, I went to workshops ranging from industrial climbing for banner dropping, to what to install for internet security, or how to use social media in a growing movement. Or you can join workshops on food forestry, documentary screenings on urban farming etc.
4) Meet new people/make new friends in this international movement coming together to be a strong force in Paris during the UN Climate summit on 30th November.
5) Contribute: Enjoy a holiday where you make yourself useful by volunteering in the kitchen, at the info tent, first aid (if you have those skills) or translation team. Volunteering is not only meaningful but also a great way to connect with more people.
ONLY FREE TIME IN THE WEEKEND? Are you very excited about being part of the Rhineland action but you cannot get the full week off from work? There is another bus being organised for people who are only free to join the action day on Saturday.

COME HOME: Sunday evening 16th of August the bus will pick us up at the camp and do drop-offs at the same cities: Nijmegen, Utrecht, Amsterdam.
The (approximate) price for a return for the bus ticket is 40eu, this comes with the great service of city pick-ups – making travel so much easier and fun!
--- if we manage to get a completely full bus some money will be left over. People can choose to get a refund upon return (when we know exact mileage of the bus) or choose to donate the few extra euros to the Hambach Forest occupation. (More info on the bus)
